Since the mid 1970s, Traverse Health Clinic has provided safety net health services to thousands of individuals and families experiencing challenging circumstances or to those who simply cannot find access to helth services. We provide primary care services at our on-site clinic in Traverse City to anybody who comes to us, from children to seniors. For those who meet specific criteria, we also offer access to a broad community network of donated primary and specialty care services, dental and vision care, mental health services, medications and outpatient hospital services.
A healthcare safety net.
For may people in our area, Traverse Health Clinic is the only option for access to health care. Without our services, many would face ongoing health issues with nowhere to turn. Traverse Health Clinic is vital to the overall health of our community.
The need keeps growing.
Traverse Health Clinic impacts the lives of over 2,500 people every month. We employ 31 staff and nearly 600 volunteer practitioners and providers who join us to deliver greatly needed services…and still we cannot always meet the growing demand. Many people are without work. Some are underemployed with no insurance. Some have Medicaid but cannot find a provider to accept them. While many are just getting by, paying for food and shelter, with no money for health care. The majority of our adult patients have one or more chronic conditions requiring ongoing care. We’re their last hope.
The numbers tell a compelling story:
- A 2012 Traverse Health Clinic Community Needs Assessment found that 46% of those surveyed experienced 3 or more problems accessing medical care due to cost, and 52% had problems wiith a medical debt in the last year.
- Small Area Health Insurance extimates in 2007 showed 25.9% of Grand Traverse County to be living below 200% of federal poverty level, with 30.5% of the low income under age 65 being uninsured.
- A growing number of people with Medicaid and Medicare are turning to the Clinic for care because they cannot find a private office that will take them. Traverse Health Clinic is their last hope and one lifeline.
The need keeps growing.
By supporting Traverse Health Clinic, you are helping families and neighbors gain access to something many of us take for granted – quality health care. When people have access to good health care, they stay healthier, gain greater opportunities, become more productive in their work, provide for their families, and contribute more to our communities.
