Traverse Health Clinic depends on your generosity to provide our patients trusted, lifelong health care. Each year, we must raise $275,000 to bridge the gap in funding between the cost of essential heath care services for our neighbors in need and the funding received for them. Together we can ensure comprehensive health care is accessible for all.
- Your gift of $100 can help one uninsured person see a medical provider to get the primary care they need.
- Your gift of $200 can help one low-income person have a session with a psychotherapist or psychiatrist for their mental health and well-being.
Since the time our organization was founded almost 45 years ago, our focus has always been on making sure that health care is within reach for everyone in our community, regardless of their financial situation. Out of our volunteer roots, we have grown and evolved into a vibrant Community Health Center offering integrated primary care and behavioral health services.
And we still do not turn anyone away if they cannot pay. Ever. Your gift still makes all the difference to the people we care for.
Opening Doors & Overcoming Barriers
In 2018, Traverse Health Clinic served over 3,500 patients, providing close to 13,000 primary care and behavioral health visits. That’s a record. And we take great pride in the fact that each and every patient receives care that meets or exceeds state and national outcomes on a number of quality measures.
Over 70% of our visits are with patients covered by Medicaid or Medicare. About 20% of visits are with patients with other types of health insurance coverage, but in the past year we’ve seen a rise in uninsured patients.
Ninety percent of our patients have household incomes at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level. For a single person, that’s just under $25,000 a year, or a little over $51,000 a year for a family of four.
HEALTH & WELLNESS WITHIN REACH:
Our mission is to make high quality care accessible to everyone in our community; we offer patients unique health care services. These services are crucial to our patients’ health and wellness, but we don’t receive any payment or reimbursement for them.
Medication Assistance Program: Whether it is an inhaler for their asthma, medication to control their blood pressure, or insulin to keep their diabetes in check, patients who cannot otherwise afford their prescriptions are able to get them through our Medication Access program, free of charge. On an annual basis, the value of these donated medications is over $700,000!
Telepsychiatry: Last year we began offering patients psychiatric care via a secure video link between our Clinic and a provider at Michigan State University. A psychiatric referral used to mean waits of six months or more, or a costly, time-consuming trip to see a provider downstate – if patients were able to get a referral at all.
Oral Health: Many patients avoid seeking dental care because they are embarrassed, afraid, or unable to afford it. Our staff dental hygienist is available to consult with patients so they can learn proper oral hygiene, receive life-saving oral cancer screenings, and get help accessing affordable regular dental care.
Enrollment & Eligibility: When people are uninsured or underinsured, too often they don’t seek care until they’re facing a health crisis. Our enrollment and eligibility specialist provides step-by-step assistance applying for Medicaid, the Healthy Michigan Plan, private plans on the health care Marketplace, and our sliding fee scale discount program. We also offer help applying for programs like the Supplemental Nutrition Program (SNAP, or “food stamps”), and housing assistance.
Your gift to Traverse Health Clinic helps people overcome the barriers to achieving their best health possible. Because when everyone has the opportunity to reach their full potential without poor health standing in their way, we’re all better off!
You have an opportunity to make an impact. Your tax deductible gifts are valued, whatever the size. We will make it work hard for those we serve. Thank you!
