11th Annual NMAHU Charity Golf Outing

Join us at the 11th Annual Northern Michigan Association of Health Underwriters Charity Golf Outing on Friday, June 25, 2010, at The Crown Golf Club. Register as an individual or a team. Fun contests include best/worst teams, hole-in-one and putting contest. Proceeds from this years outing will benefit the Traverse Health Clinic and programs offered by NMAHU for their members. Matinee Dental Day at the State Theatre – February 27, 2010

To CELEBRATE “National Children’s Dental Health Month” which is held annually every February, Traverse Health Clinic (located in Traverse City, MI) is sponsoring a “Matinee Dental Day.”

This event will be held at the State Theatre in Traverse City, MI on Saturday, February 27, 2010, at 10:00 am. The feature film for families will be “Snow Dogs” and this movie will be only .25 cents!

The doors will open to the public at 9:00 am to offer families the chance to obtain Community Resource Information for families who need information on where and how to obtain dental care for their family. Traverse Health Clinic will have staff available to answer questions.

The Traverse Health Clinic staff will perform a short, fun dental skit right before the start of the movie and also show a Goofy cartoon to help educate families and children on why brushing and flossing is important. The State Theatre has graciously offered to host this event for the community.

Traverse Health Clinic will be providing Tooth Care Kits (toothbrush, paste, floss) to everyone and they will be given out after the matinee.

This Family Theater Project is supported by a grant from: Traverse City Rotary Club’s Good Works Fund.

To KICK OFF “National Children’s Dental Health Month,” which is held annually every February, Traverse Health Clinic (located in Traverse City, MI) is sponsoring a “Matinee Dental Day.” This event will be held at The Garden Theater in downtown Frankfort, MI on Saturday, February 6, 2010, at 2:00 pm. The feature film for families will be “Happy Feet” and this movie will be FREE!

This event is generously underwritten by Charles Kehr, DDS, of Beulah, MI.

The Traverse Health Clinic staff will perform a short, fun dental skit and show a Goofy cartoon right before the start of the movie to help educate families and children on why brushing and flossing is important. Local Event Highlights Children’s Need for Dental Care

Traverse Bay Give Kids a Smile Program is set to begin November 4, 2009. A community outreach program of the Traverse Health Clinic, Traverse Bay Give Kids a Smile will visit 1st and 3rd graders in 21 schools in Grand Traverse, Benzie, Leelanau, Kalkaska and Antrim counties between November 2009 and February 2010.

Local volunteer dentists, dental hygienists, and dental assistants will provide oral health classroom education and provide an oral screening of the children, with parent consent. All children in visited classrooms will receive a tooth care kit (toothbrush, toothpaste, floss).

Beginning its fourth year of directly accessing children in schools, Traverse Health Clinic is interested in providing awareness to families about the dental programs and services offered in our community. There are children in our area who are in need of assistance. Of parents who report an inability to obtain dental care for their children, one-half report lack of insurance as the main reason. Twenty-five percent of the children screened in our 5 county areas during the last school year showed obvious signs of decay or urgent needs.
